The following is a summary of some of the rules in the Majors Division in Maidu Little League Baseball.  A more detailed summary of the Regulations and Playing Rulesis available on this website.  A full explanation of all the rules can be found in the Official Regulations and Playing Rules of Little League Baseball.

1)    Major Division teams are created by use of a draft procedure.  Players must attend tryouts and managers will select the players that will be on their team according to a draft procedure approved by the board of directors.  Players league age 10, 11, & 12 will be eligible for participation in the Majors division.  A player’s league age is their age as of July 31st at the end of the current season.  Nine year olds are not eligible to play in the Majors division in Maidu Little League.

2)    There will be a regular season schedule of from 16 to 24 total games in the Major Division.  The Major Division will play a split-season schedule, and depending on the number of Maidu teams from year to year, the attempt will be made to have each Maidu team play each other Maidu team twice in each half of the season.  Other games be played in an interlock with teams from Roseville East Little League.  There will be two games per week (1 weeknight and 1 Saturday).

3)    Games are six (6) innings long.  If a game is shortened for weather or darkness etc. it is a regulation game if 4 innings have been completed, or if the home team is ahead after 3 and ½ innings. If a game is called before it has become a regulation game and 1 or more innings have been played, it shall be resumed exactly where it left off.

4)  Time Limit: The game time limit for all Major games will be two hours.  No new inning may begin after the two-hour time limit has been reached.  On Saturdays or when there are two games on a weeknight, no new inning shall begin after 1 hour and 50 minutes.  It is the responsibility of managers and umpires to limit the amount of time spent between innings.

5)   The Mercy rule (Section 4.10e of the Official Regulations and Playing Rules of Little League Baseball) will NOT be utilized.  No “10 run rule”.

6)   There will be a District Tournament of Champions tournament at the end of the season, with two teams representing Maidu Little League, with the teams being determined by the following guidelines

a.    When one team wins both halves, and a second place team places second in both halves, those two teams will go to TOC, with the winner of both halves determined as the “A” seed and the second-place team as the “B” seed.

b.    If different teams win the first and second halves, those teams will go to TOC, and the team with the best overall record during the season determined as the “A” seed.  If both teams have identical overall records, the team with the better record in head-to-head competition will be the “A” seed.  If both teams are tied in head-to-head competition, then the team with the best record in games played against Maidu teams (if Roseville East interlock is in place) will be the “A” seed.  If that is also a tie, then a playoff game will be played to determine the “A” seed, with the home team for that game decided by a coin toss.

c.    If one team wins both halves and two different teams place second in each half, the winner of both halves will go to TOC as the “A” seed.  The best overall record during the season between the two second-place teams will determine the “B” team.  If both teams have identical overall records, the team with the better record in head-to-head competition will be the “B” seed.  If both teams are tied in head-to-head competition, then the team with the best record in games played against Maidu teams (if Roseville East interlock is in place) will be the “B” seed.  If that is also a tie, then a playoff game will be played to determine the “B” seed, with the home team for that game decided by a coin toss.

d.    If two teams tie for first place in either half, the winner of that half will be determined first by head-to-head competition between the teams.  If both teams are tied in head-to-head competition, then the team with the best record in games played against Maidu teams (if Roseville East interlock is in place) will be the winner of that half.  If that is also a tie, then a playoff game will be played to determine the winner of the half, with the home team for that game decided by a coin toss.

e.    If three teams tie for either half of the season, there will be two playoff games, with one team receiving a BYE the first game.  The bye will be determined first by head-to-head competition between the three playoff teams, and if that is tied, then by the least amount of runs given up in competition between the three playoff teams.  Runs given up against other non-playoff teams will not be counted in this determination.  Home team for the first playoff game will be determined first by head-to-head competition between those two playoff teams, and if that is tied, by a coin toss.  The winner of that first playoff game will then play the team that received the BYE, with home to be determined first by head-to-head competition between those two playoff teams, and if that is tied, by a coin toss.  The winner of the second playoff game will be determined the winner of that half, with the loser of the second playoff game determined to be the second place team for that half.

7)      Each player must play a minimum of six (6) consecutive outs and get at least one (1) at bat per game.  If a player does not get in the minimums because of a shortened game, that player must then start the next scheduled game, fulfill the playing obligations from the last game, and at least the minimum play for the current game before being taken out. Violation of the minimum play rules will result in a warning, then a possible suspension of the manager by the League's Board of Directors.

8)   A team can not have more than eight (8) players who are league age 12. A team can pitch 12 year olds for a maximum of 12 total innings per calendar week, which runs Sunday through Saturday.  A pitcher may not pitch more than 6 innings in a calendar week.  If a player pitches in four (4) or more innings in one day, three (3) calendar days rest must be observed.  Delivery of a single pitch constitutes having pitched an inning.

9)      If a player pitches four (4) or more innings on…

Sunday… and is still eligible, can pitch again on… Thursday
Monday… and is still eligible, can pitch again on… Friday
Tuesday… and is still eligible, can pitch again on… Saturday
Wednesday… and is still eligible, can pitch again on… Sunday

Thursday… and is still eligible, can pitch again on… Monday

Friday… and is still eligible, can pitch again on… Tuesday
Saturday… and is still eligible, can pitch again on… Wednesday

10)  No more than five (5) pitchers can be used in any one game.  Pitchers are not allowed to wear sweat bands or jewelry while pitching, nor are the allowed to wear white sleeves. Once a player is removed from the game as a pitcher, he/she may not pitch again in that game. Catchers must wear a mask with throat protector, and catchers helmet during practice, pitcher warm-up and games.

11) The Home team occupies the 3rd base dugout, and the Scorekeeper of the Home team will keep the Official score book. No one except eligible players in uniform, managers and not more than two coaches shall occupy the bench or dugout area. For safety reasons bat boys and bat girls are not permitted. The batter, all base runners and players acting as coaches, must wear helmets at all times.

12)  There will be no on-deck circle. Players may not take warm-up swings either inside or outside the dugout.  There shall be no head-first sliding to a base a runner is attempting to reach. A player is allowed to slide head first back to the base he already legally gained possession of.  Example:  A runner on first may not slide head first into second on a ground ball. He may, however, dive head first back to first base on a line drive in an attempt not to be put out.

13)  Managers and Coaches responsibilities:

a.    Managers for both teams are responsible to see that the outfield fence is set up before the first game of the day and taken down after the last game of the day.  The home team manager is responsible for raking, soaking, and covering the pitchers mound after the final game of the day.

b.   Each manager is responsible for exhibiting exemplary sportsmanship at all times, and is responsible for the sportsmanship of coaches, players, and parents from his/her team.

14)  All-Star teams are selected at the end of each season to represent Maidu Little League in the National Little League Baseball All-Star tournament.  Procedures for selecting all-stars follow defined procedures as approved by the Maidu Little League Board of Directors.

15)  Draft order for the subsequent year will begin with the “A” TOC team drafting last and the “B” team drafting next to last.  The remaining teams will draft in inverse order of the final standings, based on won-loss record for the entire season.  In the case of two different teams tying with identical records in the prior season, the first tie-breaker will be head-to-head competition.  The second tie-breaker will be a coin toss.
